Turning Wild Activities
Whilst on the site of Turning Wild you will be involved in many different activities, many of these will depend on the season and they may change from week to week. Here are some of the activities you will be involved in throughout the year.
Horticulture and growing
- Learning how to grow and harvest fruit and vegetables in our polytunnels.
- Learning how to grow and harvest vegetables on the land and to develop excellent horticultural skills.
- Learning how to use various tools and machinery and how to maintain different vegetable patches and how to care for a variety of plants and trees.
- To develop an appreciation of sustainable agricultural practices and how we can grow produce organically.
Ecology and environmental studies
- Learning how to record weather and environmental data and to upload this onto a database.
- Becoming proficient at identifying the different flora and fauna on the site and developing a greater ecological understanding.
- Helping to build our biodiversity data base.
- Learning how to trap bugs, moths and detect mammals using cameras and recording devices.
- Learning how to identify the variety of animals on site using keys, software and recordings.
Wildlife and forest schools
- Learning how to use tools safely and to develop woodcraft skills.
- To be able to forage safely and to develop skills to cook outdoors on an open fire.
- To learn outdoor survival skills.
- Learning about art in nature and to develop a greater understanding of what nature can teach us.
